Frequently Asked Questions
Admission and Day-to-Day Care
How can I get a place for my loved one at St Joseph’s Home?
If your loved one is in a hospital, you should speak to the Social Worker at the hospital about your loved one’s care options. In consultation with the hospital care team, they will assess your loved one’s suitability for nursing home service and make the referral to appropriate service(s).
If your loved one is at home, you can approach your nearest AIC Link for assistance. Click here for the AIC Link locations and contact details.
How long does it take to admit my mother to the home once the hospital social worker refers the case to your Home?
This depends on many factors, e.g whether the patient is medically fit to be discharged from the hospital, the availability of beds at your preferred nursing home, the availability of main spokesperson for the pre-admission meeting etc. You can check with the social worker in the hospital that is working on your loved one’s referral.
How much does it cost to put my mother in the Home?
The actual bill size will depend on your mother’s medical condition and type of care needed. It will include bed charges, consumables (such as diapers, toiletries etc) and ancillary items (such as milk feeds). The average monthly bill size will range from $3,750 to $4,740, before subsidy.
St Joseph’s Home is a government funded nursing home and residents that are referred via the hospital or the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) will receive subsidises for the nursing home fees. The amount of subsidy will depend on your mother’s functional ability and the outcome of the national means test.
